Opexa Gel is a high-performance, medical-grade silicone topical treatment manufactured by Ajanta Pharma. It is clinically indicated for the prevention and management of abnormal scarring, specifically hypertrophic scars and keloids. Utilizing advanced silicone technology, Opexa creates a transparent, self-drying, and flexible sheet over the affected area. This semi-occlusive layer normalizes the hydration levels of the scar tissue and regulates fibroblast activity, effectively flattening and softening raised scars resulting from surgery, trauma, burns, or acne.

Pharmacological Composition (Key Ingredients)

Dimethicone / Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer: A specialized silicone polymer that forms a breathable, water-resistant, and protective film. It mimics the skin’s natural barrier to reduce transepidermal water loss (TEWL), which is the primary signal for the body to stop overproducing scar-forming collagen.

Cyclopentasiloxane: A volatile silicone that acts as a delivery vehicle, allowing the gel to spread easily and dry rapidly without leaving a sticky or tacky residue.

Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate (Vitamin C Ester): A stable, lipid-soluble form of Vitamin C. It provides potent antioxidant protection and inhibits melanogenesis to lighten the redness (erythema) and dark pigmentation (hyperpigmentation) of the scar.

Dermatological Application (How to Use)

Preparation: Ensure the scar is clean and dry. Opexa must only be applied to closed, intact skin (after sutures are removed and the wound has completely closed).

Dosage: Use a very small amount. Silicone gels are highly concentrated; a pea-sized drop is often sufficient for a 3-5 cm scar.

Application: Apply a very thin layer over the scar. Do not rub or massage vigorously; simply spread it in one direction.

Drying: Allow the gel to air-dry for 3 to 5 minutes. If it takes longer to dry, you have applied too much; gently wipe away the excess.

Frequency: Apply twice daily (morning and evening).

Duration: For new scars, a treatment period of 8 to 12 weeks is standard. For older or more established scars, continued use for 6 months may be necessary.

Safety and Storage
